Which Editor For A CMS?
Over at praegnanz.de there is a very interesting discussion going on about the use of WYSIWYG editors in content management systems. The idea of having a semantic editor seems very promising to me … thought about it this morning, but run into a lot of problems. Doesn’t seem very easy to implement, but maybe worth it. Furthermore, the problem of people pasting their word files into the editor is really a big one. I myself noticed people doing so several times, and it’s always a pain to sorten things out afterwards.
I myself am using TinyMCE in my CMS. At first I disliked all sorts of WYSIWYG editors but over time they really improved and if you know what you can do (and what you can’t), it’s a lot easier than to write HTML code or use something like Markdown.
But there’s still room for improvment and a semantic editor could also help the CMS understand more of the content it contains, which maybe could be really cool…
It get's even worse: The new URL (see my previous post) stopped working as of yesterday. The old isn'tworking either, so we're left with error 404…
Unbelievable
Today I had what I hope was the worst experience with web hosters I had in my life. An organization I work for contacted me this morning that their provider was changing the URL to the secure section. Ugly, ugly. But I didn't think long about it and wanted to change the URL in my files. Downloaded them from the server and searched for the old URL. No results. No results? Wait, that can't be. I scrolled down and - surprise, surprise: The server admin had edited MY FILES! Unbelievable …

Getting started with ActionScript on a Mac
Just wanted to share this short intro I wrote a while ago when we started working with ActionScript 3. Because I didn't use Flex Builder back then, it took me a while to get something running …
Welcome Back!
So, this is a new start.
After more than one year, I'm back blogging! But this is going to be very different compared to the old journal ... One thing is very easy to spot: I'll write in english. Why? Because it is a challenging to express myself in a different language and I think that I will learn a lot this way. Another reason is that writing in english allows me to address a broader audience.
Second: There will be no comments, no categories and other additional stuff. Only my blog entries. Of course, this is preliminary and subject to change ... the same applies to the layout, I love to have a space to try out new stuff. I think I'll write about the current design later on, because I had a very nice idea which turned out to be quite difficult. Let's see, maybe I'm able to implement it later on. (ah, and try reloading!)
Furthermore and most important: the content. Mostly the blog will be about technical stuff, often related to my studies, which will start again in about a week. Additionally, I'll link to interesting articles, essays and other blog entries. Another part I want to add are photos, I loved publishing photos on my old blog and I missed that ever since, so here we go again.
Yep, and that's it for now ... see you again in a while!
